Revised to include new blogs on: Friday, May 28 2014, 11:10 pm.

As the semester comes to an end we are thinking hard about best assessment practices in IBL. Even though all four of us have the same goals for our MLA classes, we use different techniques. After discussion a first set of 4 techniques last month (homework stories, solution sets, posters, and participation), we now share our thinking on five more assessment techniques: Mathematical Autobiographies, Projects, Journals, Notebook and Multiple-Choice Quizzes, and (Final) Exams.

Please consider signing up for the PREP IBL workshop and/or the R.L. Moore conference this June. We will be there and are excited to engage in even deeper thinking about IBL.

Sincerely,

Julian Fleron, Phil Hotchkiss, Volker Ecke, & Christine von Renesse

Assessment

Student learning and growth is at the heart of our project. To be transformed, our students grow in many areas, discovering powerful relationships between themselves, the world, society, patterns, rigorous thinking, and communication. To assess growth in all these diverse areas, we have been developing a rich toolkit for assessment.
