A Mathematics Student's Lament
Music and lyrics by Joshua Loell
Verse 1
This is my lament
That I must regret
These past several years
All this time wasted on something I thought I knew
Something somebody made me go through
Pre-chorus
These problems in the way that we grow
I've been swindled out of something
Some people say "Math, that just has to go" and
"Why should I bother?"
CHORUS
We gotta let go
Of the things we used to know
Gotta find the truth behind the evens and odds and grow
And how do I show you?
Well, this proof it just told you!
We gotta let go and save math's very soul
Verse 2
There was a time when I was content
And followed to the letter what "the man" said
Deaf, dumb and blind I got lost and left behind
Pre-chorus
But now I have a sense of pride in the work that I'm showing
This adventure has run its course but it sure ain't over
CHORUS
BRIDGE
And who could've known
Math was such an art form
A perfect puzzle so accessible
And who could've seen
The change in me
Math isn't my enemy
Verse 3
And would you just look at me now
I used to be one with such worry such doubt
I can only say thank you for that
And now we must go our separate paths…
There was a time when I was content
And followed to the letter what "the man" said
But that time is long over and the journey to truth has begun
